D-Day Squadron's Departure Prep For Normandy
The D-Day Squadron is the American contingent participating in the Daks Over Normandy flyover crossing the English Channel to commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-Day on June 6, 2019. The epic journey of a fleet of C-47s (military DC-3 aircraft) will honor the soldiers of the War. The D-Day Squadron departs from Waterbury Oxford Airport in Connecticut on May 19, eventually flying the Blue Spruce Route and traversing the North Atlantic.

D-Day Stories: Frank DeVita Describes Landing on the Beach
Frank DeVita was in charge of lowering the ramp on the USS Samuel Chase on D-Day. The role would haunt him for the rest of his life.

Veterans reflect on their service for the 75th anniversary of D-Day
This week marks the 75th anniversary of D-Day — the invasion that liberated Europe and turned the tide of World War II. More than 160,000 troops stormed the beaches of Normandy in 1944. Mark Phillips reports.

75 Years After D-Day, Normandy's US Cemetery a Vivid Reminder of Sacrifices
On June 6th, heads of state including President Trump will gather at a beach in northern France to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the D-Day invasion. In this military operation, thousands of American and other allied soldiers lost their lives in the first phase of a final push to liberate France and the continent from Nazi occupation. The Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial represents a unique place to pay tribute to the fallen warriors.

Flying over Normandy 75 years after D-Day
On June 6, this squadron will comprise the American contingent of a massive reenactment of D-Day called “Daks over Normandy,” a multi-nation commemoration that will include dozens of restored C-47s and hundreds of volunteer paratroopers. Each will be wearing not only authentic WWII-era uniforms and gear, but also the same kind of parachutes Allied soldiers used when tens of thousands jumped over occupied France 75 years ago.
