Colonel Kennedy’s military decorations include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal (with four oak leaf clusters), and Air Force Commendation Medal (with one oak leaf cluster).  His professional military education includes Squadron Officers School, Air Command and Staff College and Air War College.

Colonel Kennedy retired from active duty in October 2000.  He and his wife then spent a year traveling the country in their motor home before settling down in Summerville, SC.
