Combat Medic Museum

Combat Medic Museum

“I have a personal connection with two of the many great military museums I've visited,” Peter Broda, CDR, USCG (Ret), MOAA Charleston Member.  This is one of them.

The Combat Medic Museum on Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio is also a gem.  My father, Stephen Broda, Jr., served in France and Germany as a combat medic in the 249th ECB during World War II and as a Corpsman with the Navy and Marine Corps stateside during Korea.  Battlefield medicine has come a long way since the Civil War and you can see it all here.  My favorite exhibit is the hospital train from World War II which sits outside the museum with other medical transport vehicles.

Next time in Texas – make sure you stop here!  Want to get a brief whiff of the great exhibits and history?  The website (http://ameddmuseum.amedd.army.mil) has a virtual tour that is made up of a linked series of YouTube videos with SGM (Ret) Dave Windsor guiding you through the museum and narrating the tour.  Wonderful.
